New to the herd

After much stabbing with a felting needle I have managed to turn some unspun into two rainbow fleeced sheep, and I simply adore them :-)

Needle felting takes a surprisingly long time, I must have spent 20 hours stabbing bits of wool to create my sheep, however it becomes quite addictive and it is fantastic to sculpt with wool.

This little guy had even more yarn adding to him to make him extra cuddly and colourful.

My sheep crafting kit I bought from Yarndale last year and if you fancy a go too they have an online shop www.feltcreative.co.uk where you can get kits like this one designed for complete needle felting beginners.

Seeing rainbows

Now Summer is here I'm noticing all the beautiful colours showing up in the garden as well about the house.

I've been busy sorting through the kids hama beads and I have found it very rewarding putting them all into colour groups, the kids have been intrigued by my doing this and can't wait to get hama beading again.

Talking of bright rainbow colours I thought I would also share these crochet flower brooches I made a couple of Summers ago to join the massive rainbow "Flowers for memories" display at Yarndale 2015.

Yarndale 2016

Hooray for another Yarndale!

Thea, myself and Jane headed into Skipton at the weekend for another dose of yarn goodness.

We found so many beautiful colours and so much inspiration.

From the wonderous crochet your own stuffed animal head...

To some of the fluffy creatures we get our yarn from.

The lovely Yarndale sheep were out on display again.

As well as lots of other hand crafted beauties.

We found my little Mareep who had just made a new friend :-)

And between spending hours hunting through the stalls we took a break to go on the Yarn walk.

We had such a wonderful time and enjoyed it all so much, thanks so much to the organisers for another fantastic yarn filled day.

Yarndale

For those of you who haven't been aware of the much anticipated 'Yarndale' festival then let me fill you in...

Yarndale is a new event that took place for the first time this September at beautiful Skipton in Yorkshire. The event was held over 2 days in Skipton auction market where the usual attendees are sheep and other cattle. For Yarndale though it had been transformed - incredible amounts of crocheted bunting had been strung up all around, different areas had been yarn bombed and even the Yarndale bus proudly wore some bunting.

The brilliant colours and beautiful items being shown and sold simply cannot be described.

So much delicious crochet goodness in one place had me almost giddy with excitement and itching to get my hands hooking away.

After a quick wander through some of the stalls and a hasty purchase of the Yarndale bag, pretty Yarndale pin and Yarndale program we headed off to the workshop theatre where we had glimpsed some tempting knitting kits for the Christmas bauble knitting workshop.

I'm not really much of a knitter but with a little help from the lovely Hannah of HomeBakedOnline I had managed to wrestle my four double pointed knitting needles into making the start of a bauble without injuring anyone nearby. Three hours flew by and after a much needed visit to the toilets we headed off to explore further.

We came to this crochet corner of loveliness - a little oasis of crochet and knit comfort where you could sit and try out any new purchases of yarn while having a chat with any other crafters who wandered through.

We also met the wonderful Lucy of Attic24 and had to have a photo with her. Lucy was one of the very hard working organisers of Yarndale and also responsible for getting all the crochet bunting sent in as well as putting together the knit n natter lounge.

We all had the most fantastic day and though exhausted from all the shopping and talking we had enjoyed every minute. Yarndale - simply put was brilliant and I cannot wait until the next one!

Triangular grannies?

Not content with just making up granny squares I've been having a go at these lovely triangular grannies (from this brilliant tutorial on Attic24's blog).

These lovely granny triangles are destined to join with lots of other triangles from all over the world and become a ginormous length of granny bunting at the upcoming Yarndale in Skipton Yorkshire (on 28th - 29th September).

Thanks to Mummycat & Unravelling Me for showing off their own lovely triangles and giving me the inspiration I needed to give them a go myself :-)
